MMVIII

Goodbye 2008, Hello 2009.  As the year winds down we find ourselves reflecting on what was and will be in the coming year.  Over here at Juxtaexposed headquarters we have had a nice 2008.  While I should be able to remember more here is a quick summary of our past year:

- watched the Skins lose in the 1st round of the play-offs last season and have a disappointing season this year…
-  saw a crazy Asian Beetles cover band at 9:30 club
- attended a few weddings!
-Capped on Tap
-witnessed Japanese Hyperculture
- visited Philly, NYC, Chicago, New Orleans, Iowa, LA, and Charleston
- discovered the best chocolate store in DC (possibly the world)
- found some micro chairs made out of champagne corks at DWR
-  visited the lovely Dumbarton Oaks
- watched the start of the oh-s0-entertaining Idiotarod
- went to the Cherry Blossom festival (of course)
- saw 50,000 cupcakes… failed at eating them all in one sitting.
- got quoted in the Express!!!!
- beerfested
- met Chris Cooley OMG OMG OMG!!!
- participated in and attended Artomatic
-  watched things go BOOM BOOM in Baltimore and made an amazing meat flag.
- went to the Mall to watch the original Bond and saw Airplane! up at Strathmore
- tried my first soft shell crab at Eastern Market….eeek
-  became completely obsessed with Triathlons!
- started going carfree to work more often
-  began working onsite on the massive construction project known as Constitution Square
- did a fair bit of tailgating even when the weather did not comply

- had a pretty sweet Halloween costume and hosted a pumpkin carving contest

- attended the infamous Dupont Drag Race

- election.

- didn’t dress like a turkey (for once)

- saw the bad @ss Shepard Fairey show

- completed 1 semester of grad school (Lori)!!!

- got  zoo lit.

- celebrated our 1 year blogiversery

I do not however remember what my New Years Resolution would be for 2008…so I’m going to assume that means that I did not stick to it.  Oh well.

Nice look back at some highlights in your life in 2008. Is the year date 2008 made out of popped corn?

I don’t have a lot to say about last year or this new year but here are some thoughts…

I hope 2009 will be better than 2008, 2007, and 2006. I do think our government will be inspired by our new President Obama — at least I hope so.

I would like to see the War in Irag end and I would like to see the killing stop everywhere.

It is my hope that Japan will stop slaughtering whales and raping virgin forests.

And I hope the people will lose their clubs and no longer club baby seals to death.

What a world we have and live in. Just think 2009 could be so much better than it will be.

I would like to second Honest Abe’s fine comments. Who would club a baby seal, that is awful. Well I hear they shoot baby wolves from helicopters up in AK. Not too bright. The real reason I am writing though is I want to know who are the Beetles? I have never heard of that band. A band of bugs? Ewww………Imagine there’s no bugs, it’s easy if you try. Hey that reminds me of a crazy conversation I had with an ex-roommate of yours. Do you remember that? Man I have a sharp memory, must have been April 20 2005 if I recall. J/K. Anyways how is the 2009 New Years hangover??? Do tell……

  3. Marc Says:

Best wishes for the New Year to both of you!

Rice Krispie Treats? What a splendid idea! Thought you’d enjoy knowing that I’ve been friends with Chris Cooley since he was in the 4th grade. Sorry, couldn’t resist–he’s a different Chris Cooley, originally from Jackson, Mississippi, who now calls Portland, Oregon, home. He’s one of my older son’s longtime friends, quite the musician and bartender.

Portland Oregon Daily Photo sends you heartfelt wishes for the new year. May your 2009 be filled with good health, riches of the mind and heart, loved ones returning home, an increased respect for our fragile planet, and the cessation of wars across the Earth.

I never make resolutions as I know I won’t keep them. Like the closing image you have and all the best for 2009

  6. Karen Says:

Now that’s quite a list of accomplishments! Well done – you’ve packed alot into a year academically, professionally, athletically and personally with lots of fun in between.
Best wishes for a healthy, happy, joyful, peaceful 2009!
