I love our flag – especially these days. Bless you for getting out in the cold and taking some great photos.

    Its a new day….

What an amazing thing to be there! I envy you! A huge day…..we watched much of it on TV here in Sydney, but not the actual inauguration – it was on at 3:30am! One Sydney-sider celebrates Barack Obama’s inauguration by tinkling the ivories

Thank you for sharing your POV, I watched it on TV and these are just wonderful!

Wow, looks like you ended up pretty much where my brother and I did… we went up to Wash. Monument and tried to get into the crowd on the East side of the hill, but ended up retreating to the West side of 17th St. (near the WWII memorial) because we could at least hear the jumbo-tron broadcast there, and have a little room to swing our arms to stay warm.

Yes, it was a mile and a half away from the swearing-in, but it was great to just be with all the people celebrating the moment on the Mall !!

I grew up in DC (a product of DC public schools, Go Tigers!) and the first inauguration I went to was Jimmy Carter… they held the swearing-in on the East front of the Capital back then, and much much much smaller crowds, but still a memory I cherish, closely matched by this one! For Jimmy, I got to watch the swearing-in PLUS bleacher seat tickets to the parade, and saw Jimmy and Roslyn walk right in front of us at the parade. No possibility of seeing Obama so close this time, but still one to mark down in my journal.

Just got back to Oriental NC tonight from DC, so will be posting my on photos in the next hour or two!

LORI: DID YOU MAKE IT TO THE EL TAMARINDO PINATA BASH??? I missed out, due to sore mussels after 20+ miles of walking the three previous days!

Thanks to everyone for the comments and links to your own inauguration photos. It’s great to see all the different points of view experienced that day!

Capt. Ben – Thanks for sharing your childhood memory of inauguration day… sounds like an entirely different experience back then. I didn’t make it to the pinata bash at El Tamarindo, but there were a few held throughout Adams Morgan, and I caught the tail end of the one in front of Adams Mill (picture: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mhoek/3202301953/ )!! I will be sure to check out your photos! thanks :)
