DC, temporary urbanism

DSC_4135, originally uploaded by m hoek.

The Temporary Urbanism group from Actionomics DC has been tasked with finding ways to temporarily re-energize vacant buildings and spaces around DC. The two corridors that have been selected for initial investigation are H St NE and Mount Pleasant.

What sort of good temporary urban uses can you think of? Art gallery? Pop-up retail? Skatepark? Street food vendors? Holiday market? Putt-putt course? Impromptu beach volleyball? Farmers/Flea market? Concert venue? Performance theater? Arts and craft studio? Dog park? Seasonal restaurant? Bocce and horseshoe courts? Community barbecue pit? A canvas for “light art”? Playground?

    Studio space for artists/dancers…

The brick with the leafless vines and crumbly window made for a beautiful photograph.
