cukes May 8th, 2012

Last summer, our neighbors gave us some of the extra cucumbers from their garden. They were incredibly delicious and far more so than the wax-covered ones you get at the grocery. I guess this is true of most all fruits and veggies, but anyways I made myself a mental note at the time to remember to try and plant some cucumbers this year. So I went for it about 2 weeks ago and BY GOLLY they have sprouted!!!! If I seem way too excited about this it’s because I’ve never really grown anything or kept a plant alive for more than about a week. I’m really better at remembering to care for things that bark, meow, or otherwise push their food bowls across the kitchen floor at me every night as a reminder to feed and tend to them. Now I have turned into an over anxious gardener and kinda feel the need to go check on them another time today. I really hope they keep on going and if I get to eat even one cucumber from the backyard this year I’ll call it a success.
(Those other few pots in the background are my hot pepper starters. hopefully my hot peppers that is. Come on peppers!! Their package said 21 days to sprout though, so I’ll just keep waiting)

Yeah! Gardening is a cool life-long thing. so glad you’re dipping into it. Did Matt water them while you were in Austin?

@DIY – yep! I’m going to move them once they get bigger. Mom said you suggested something to tie them back to though, I didn’t think of that…
@Karen –
I don’t think Matt watered them, I forgot to remind him. We’ve been getting rain though lately, so that was lucky.

yeah, you’ll def need to get them more room. out in hoco i grew some cucs, they spread all over the place. you should put lettuce in that long one, easy to grow and doesn’t need alot of space like the cucs.

I’m impressed! I’m barely keeping a christmas cactus and aloe plant alive.
