Columbia Heights pano August 3rd, 2010

The latest time-series panography of the newly-finished plaza in Columbia Heights at 14th and Park Rd. NW. Shots were taken on July 31st, 2010 from 12:05 – 12:07 PM (Noon), 8:45 – 8:48 PM (Sunset), 11:43 – 11:48 PM (Night), and again on August 1st, 2010, 6:47 – 6:51 AM (Sunrise). View it larger, and on a black background – it looks much cooler.

Tivoli December 2nd, 2009

Tivoli

Matt is doing another series of photos to be framed, mounted, and placed on the walls of Union Row, and this black-and-white shot of Tivoli Theater, now known as the Gala Hispanic Theater , is just one of the many options.

The theater has been around since 1924, designed by architect Thomas Lamb, who also did Madison Square Garden in NY. It was a centerpiece of the thriving Columbia Heights neighborhood through the 20s and up until 1965. Following the 1968 race riots, the neighborhood declined and Tivoli was eventually boarded up. It wasn’t until 1985 that the building landed on the National Register of Historic Places. It’s been reopened now for nearly 5 years.

Taken on Saturday, October 24th, the worldwide International Day of Climate Change . In our neck of the woods, that included a gathering in Malcolm X Park followed by a mass bike ride to the White House. There were over 5200 similar events around the world. Check out the rest of the photo set here .

I recommend… November 15th, 2008

Sticky Fingers Bakery

Sticky Fingers Bakery. They have really yummy hot chocolate. It’s so thick and rich that the recipe very well may be a melted Hershey bar in a cup with marshmallows. They’ve also got all the vegan and non-dairy/non-egg based sweet treats if you are into that sort of thing… plus a cozy little area for reading, lap-toping, and being generally trendy.
