A large mural was installed in Adams Morgan that is in protest of clean coal technology. I assume that this is the product of the “This is Reality” group which have recently had a significant advertising presence in the metro. While I have not had a chance to do much reading on either side of this issue I really like the little dead canary logo that The Reality Coalition came up with so that is cool in my book. This particular mural features Ghandi, gas masks, and a group of anonymous workers.

The blurry (potentially headache inducing) affect is from my handi-dandi Lensbaby.

Feeling the urge to do something “naturey” with our long weekend Lori and I bravely headed into NE DC to visit the Kenilworth Aquatic Park and Gardens. I save bravely because, no way around it, you have to pass right through a fairly decrepit looking housing project to get to the parks gate and deal with about the most confusing traffic detour in the world to get to said project. Once parked and out of the car it was very much worth the minor headache. The Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens is set on the Southern/Eastern banks of the Anacostia river across from the much larger National Arboretum. As the name indicates the park consists of a large swamp/marsh area with a boardwalk that reaches out into it and a series of smaller ponds which you can walk around (no fences or rails either, almost fell in trying to take a photo). It was worth the trip to see the giant lilly pads. These things were a good 6′ across. Crazy big.

I’m thinking next spring we will try to come back and visit again.

This is the “Majesty of the Law” sculpture outside the Rayburn House Office Building, which is just south of the US Capitol Building between Independence Ave and C St. SW. According to DC Memorials.com, he’s holding a book of federal laws with the United States seal on the cover, and his sword is meant to represent valor. His counterpart is the female “Spirit of Justice,” and she holds a lamp to symbolize truth and righteousness. The photo was taken with the lensbaby, which is what gives it the blurry effect.

This is otherwise a nice and enjoyable museum to visit, although I will say that I enjoy it more for the atrium space, staircase, and architecture than the actual exhibits themselves. Hopefully for the sake of the little ducks they will turn down the suction power of the pool equipment.
