It’s been a warm few days in DC (minus the heavy winds last night) and more sunny temps are on the way. The weather turns my evening walks with Bowser into more of a leasurely paced jaunt than a hurry-up-and-do-your-thang race around the block. Right now I’m just sitting on our porch and looking up at the moon. It’s nearly full and almost in line with the faces of the rowhouses on our side of the street, depending on how I stretch my neck. Bowser is rummaging around through the leaves in the front yard, sniffing for treats (mulch). Five more minutes, then we’ll go inside.

One of the more interesting protests I’ve witnessed took place this weekend. This being the 4th Annual World Naked Bike Ride. The WNBR is a protest against our dependence on foreign oil and a rally for improved cycling conditions in America’s cities. The DC WNBR started at Franklin Square in downtown DC, rode to the US Capitol, and finished out in front of the White House. All the participants said it was a lot more fun to moon Bush but they would make due with the new Administration. Upon arriving at Lafayette Square I am sure they ruined the days of the many tourists who were peering through fence trying to catch a glimpse of the President. Despite the name the riders were not technically naked, as that would be lewd and illegal, instead they wore an assortment of underwear, loin clothes, socks, and body paint. I hope their ride was a success. While I find their cause quite valid I’m not so sure about the execution. Regardless, it made for a VERY VERY funny (…and kind of awkward) event to photog.
OK, so I’m pretty excited about the Olympics starting tomorrow and I’m feelin’ the USA pride.
OK, so I’m pretty excited about the Olympics starting tomorrow and I’m feelin’ the USA pride. I think I’ll be paying extra special attention this year to the Olympic triathletes, and by that I mean my mouth hanging open wide at how fast and buff they are. I heard on the radio today that there will be a special multimedia presentation at the opening ceremony, which I am equally excited about seeing. I wish I could have worked on something like that.

This photo is from Arlington National Cemetery…. and hmm why is the moon out?

Here is our <del>high-powered telescope</del> point-and-shoot sans tripod photography of tonight’s lunar eclipse!

On the way up to the roofdeck at exactly 10pm:

Matt: Do we really need to go up there right this second? Is it going to start on time?
Me: I think the moon has been planning this moment for awhile, and probably will not be late.

So obv. it doesn’t show from the photo, but it was really eerie the way the moon turned shades of red and grey, so hopefully you got to see it for yourself. Honestly, this looks more like the sun.
