We hope everyone had a nice, long labor day weekend. Weather-wise, it was just gahhh-geous dahhhling. We spent much of it relaxing, doing schoolwork, and watching college football, of course. Matt also found some time to scan the fujichrome sensia 200 slide film that came back in the mail last week. The results include this shot, from an alleyway in Capitol Hill, where we had been wandering sometime last month. I happened to look up and see a few birds perched on the lowest window sill, and then suddenly we realized the whole side of the building was covered in them. It was a very creepy Hitchcockian moment. The birds were all so quiet that we could have passed through the alley, looking at the ground, and never noticed the entire flock staring down at us. Freaky!

The Cairo
May 19th, 2009
Here is my final project for my Final Cut Pro video editing class from the semester that just wrapped up. It’s a 5 minute documentary-style movie about the history of The Cairo Apartment building on Q Street. I found the story of the building to be fascinating… Hope you enjoy!
On Sunday night we went to check out the Comcast Outdoor Film Festival at the Strathmore in North Bethesda, MD. The show for the evening was Airplane! and true classic, and I think I forgot how funny that movie is.
The hill setup made for pretty decent viewing, and there were tons of vendors. By that I mean there was Ben and Jerry’s. The guy sitting behind us, who was talking about his love for mixing popcorn and ice-cream (“It’s sweet and salty!”), proceeded to then share some of his popcorn (we had been laughing at him) to mix with our last few bites of ice-cream. Not bad at all!
Last night we took a little PB&J and wine picnic out to Screen on the Green on the National Mall. The first free movie of the summer was Dr. No… It’s definitely a very enjoyable way to spend an evening lounging on a blanket with the Capitol Building in the background. As you can tell from the picture, there was little unoccupied ground space with all the people and blankets and chairs spread out. Next time we’ll get there a little earlier so we can get closer to the screen!
