depressioning
April 14th, 2009

This picture makes me think of depression era dust bowl farm houses that have been beaten and worn by the relentless weather around them. Fortunately, I did not have to take a trip in time/space to get the shot as it is actually a carriage house in Dupont Circle. I love that the shutters are so worn that the paint and upper layers of wood have been wiped away exposing the warmer colored wood core underneath. The only portion of the shutter spared the beating looks to be the upper third which has gained some protection from the overhanging eave. Sloppy painting on the mullions and scrawny vines that cling to the wooden lap siding are fitting for this desperate scene. That being said, a steady rain must sound amazing as its drops pelt the tired tin roof.
crazy tree

hmm, who is to blame here — Did the tree eat the fence, or was it unwillingly engulfed? Either way, I think that nature is winning here.
More Fisheye, please!

Another photo from the fisheye camera… kinda creepy don’t ya think? Maybe I should have saved this for Halloween next year or something…
Snowflake Tree!
December 18th, 2008
There is a new holiday decoration in the form of a snowflake tree in Georgetown! It’s in the park at the west end of M Street, right before the Key Bridge. It looks really beautiful at night, as captured there by M.V. Jantzen on Flickr, but it also has an interesting structural appeal in the day light too. (Wow I sound like a nerd.)
Red Green Blue

… and white and orange too, I suppose. This photo is yet another from Matt’s couple of days off of work, which he spent walking, skateboarding, and otherwise creeping around alleys and streets in NW, DC.
Albus Cavus
November 10th, 2008
Yesterday we walked over to 11th and Park Ave. to check out a street art project called Albus Cavus (meaning white cave in Latin). The basic premise is to beautify streets in need of some prettying, in this case, they had a construction fence that was surrounding a run down liquor store. The developer donated the fence space to these artists for the next 6 months, until the new project is built.
It looks like the artists were out there for most of the day Sunday, painting and cutting out their designs. By the time we got there in the afternoon, they were just starting to hang the images on the fence.

now that is just AWWW
October 22nd, 2008
Look at all the sidewalk chalk hearts! How cute. And with the pile of leaves that have blown over them… you know it really is the fall season, which is the best season and probably my favorite one too. Although spring is very close behind in awesomeness, fall is the best because of: no humidity! Halloween! and most importantly it is boot season!
What’s your favorite season and why?
candy corn deformities
October 17th, 2008
I just love Halloween season. It means so many good things. Costumes, pumpkin beer, hot cider, my mom’s famous pumpkin cookies (I’m still waiting on), an apparent zombie walk in Silver Spring !!!, and CANDY CORN. Oh how I love it. I saved all the reject/deformed pieces from the bag last night, because they are just funny. I just enjoy the fact that a candy that is yellow, orange, and white always turns my tongue pink
