large and in-charge June 4th, 2010

It’s hard writing a blog everyday. I don’t know how Lori and Matt keep up on it, or even find enough interesting things to rope us in and keep us coming back for more. I haven’t even written anything in the past 2 days and today I’m struggling. I haven’t been at work for the past couple of days because our friend Ellie was visiting me and I had to take her out on the Bmore-DC town. We went to trivia night where I geniusly came up with the final jeopardy answer of “The Flying Dutchman” (only because of The Simpsons), but we still came in second place. Which is so unfair because it was the 2 of us being drunk losing out to a group of 8 people in power suits…. clearly indicating intelligence. Then the next day we trotted all around Bmore and then went down to DC to meet up with some people at the Georgetown Waterfront. It was a blast from the past no doubt.

Well here’s your picture for the day. Don’t get too excited. I’m sure those of you from Federal Hill will recognize the local celebrity being featured. His name is Tony and he resides in the Light Street Liquor store. Every time I’m in there people are always talking about him and taking pictures. I finally one day (clearly I go in there alot) asked the owner what his name was. In his broken English very reminiscent of Mickey Rooney’s offensive portrayal of Mr. Yunioshi in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”, he replied “Tony…. you know like Tiger. Grrrrrreat.” My guess is that Tony weighs a solid 90 pounds, but I try to steer clear of him ever since he took a swipe at me while I was reaching on the bottom shelf for some Burnetts.

ps- This post is dedicated to Marybeth, #1 fan of Tony.

awww yeah america June 2nd, 2010

I hope everybody had a great memorial day weekend. My weekend was spent doing a whole lot of nothing. I did go down to Kent Island to visit my friend. I figured that was me going to “the beach” because technically I crossed the bay bridge, even though I immediately got off at the next exit. But it did remind me a lot of my carnie days spent in Ocean City manning such attractions as the “Squirt the water in the clown’s mouth game” and the gigantic plastic lemon that, you guessed it, served lemonade. Down on “Crocodile Isle” as the Kent Islanders call it, there was a great breakfast place I went to that also reminded me of this place I used to work at in Ocean City. Smelled of paneled wood, greasy eggs, and stinky tourists.

I also hope that everybody out there in Juxta World remembered how awesome the military is and how banging the United States is (F*CK YEAH!). I showed off my pride by wearing the old red white and blue out Sunday night. I was accused of being a republican because I was passionately telling people about how I love holidays were I can wear red white and blue and I especially love 4th of July because I get to wear my Kenny Chesney tie-dye t shirt and American Flag bandana. For some reason, that coupled with the fact that I drive a truck and smoke cigarettes, made me a republican to this random drunk guy. Oh well, I told him that in fact, I was a raging liberal and I don’t think that taking pride in your country makes you a democrat or republican, it just makes you an American. Then I did what any true blue would do and eminent domained his land, forced him into socialized medicine, took 20% of his money to give to the bum dead man’s floating in the Chester River, and then spilled oil all over his seafood gumbo. Yee Haw!

Well enough rambling, enjoy the post for today! Back to lighter topics tomorrow where I will start my 10 part series about the life lessons learned from Sister Act starting with “If my sister’s in trouble, I will always help her out. If my sister’s in trouble, I will turn the world around. I will fight for her right, no matter where the problems seem to lie. If my sister’s in trouble so am I, if my sister’s in trouble so am I. So am I.”

a bottle of champagne deep May 28th, 2010

For the last 5+ days I was a little upset, albeit, depressed, that our lovely hosts Matt and Lori had not sent me the information to start my well deserved, and much anticipated, reign as JuxtaExposed guest blogger while they are honeymooning in France.  With all of my years spent being the so called “man behind the curtain” and second fiddle, I thought my dreams were finally coming true. My goal of being the Justin Beiber to JuxtaExposed’s FML.com was within my grasp when I was vindicated over the wedding weekend with all the Steenhoek/Wasilewski praise of my continuos commenting on the blog.  I was slipping into a deeper and darker pit of despair and unoriginality where the best material I could come up with was un-funny, nonsensical ramblings about Lost theories on the EW blogs or starting arguments about Harry Potter on Mugglenet when I got THIS in my email:

Holysmoke I am bottle of champagne deep on a balcony near notre Dane and talking about the hunchback when suddenly! I rembered I need you yo post to juxtaexposed

Hazaa!  So dear Juxta readers, the blog is back up and in my hands (hopefully because they trust me not because they are drunk as indicated by the spelling, lack of syntax and obvious mention of champagne).  If I knew how to somehow change all the background graphics to reflect savethetaco.org I would, but I’m not that technical, nor do I really even know how to work this website.  So instead I called up my sister who knows how to work blogs and more importantly…. photoshop!  So this is my interpretation of what the new Mr. and Mrs. Steenhoek are up to right now at this very minute.  I will relish this opportunity and chance to prove myself not unlike Sister Mary Clarence aka Doloris Van Cartier as played by Whoopie Goldberg proved herself to Mother Superior as played by Maggie Smith in the classic 1992 movie “Sister Act.” Salve Maria and Enjoy!

A flying geese sculpture in the Dupont Circle area… I guess this is what the view looks like if you are the goose at the back of the V.

Urban gardener May 17th, 2010

Lots of backyard greenery going on here… I love this little oasis! Especially the flower boxes on the very upper railing. Good place to sit and have a cup of morning tea.
