This is my best attempt at having a “grrr, aren’t I scary” face. Intimidating, I know.

Unbeknownst to me one of the guys who trains at Knox Boxing and Fitness on 18th Street in Adams Morgan is also a professional photographer. His name is Nick Strocchia and here is a link to his website, be sure to take a look and consider him for all of your future professional photog needs. Nick decided to take a night off of working out to shoot some photos of the Georgetown boxing team during their training session. While not a member of the Georgetown team (Go Terps!), I have been working out with the team for the last 6 months or so. They have a great coach and a dedicated core group that will surely make some ripples in the, albeit small, world of collegiate boxing.

In addition to my “grr, aren’t I scary” face (above), he snapped a couple good shots of my “I’m punching you in the belly” face and my “Now, I’m going to punch you in the face” face. Take a look at the rest of the series (here) for more action from the Georgetown guys.

World’s Best Fried Chicken

Last night I dragged Lori to the Pikesville National Guard Armory for a night at the fights. Overall, it was a pretty underwhelming show with very little drama in any of the matches. Gary “Digital” Williams from boxingalongthebeltway.blogspot.com has a good write-up on the fights here. We went up to support the owner of my gym, Laurence Jones, who was fighting in his 4th professional bout. Laurence fought hard but he was fortunate to leave the ring with a majority draw.

The highlight of the evening (aside from the sweet neon fried chicken marquee sign, shown above) was getting to meet 5 time World Champion Vinny Paz. This is a guy who after winning his first world title (IBF Lightweight) was in a brutal car crash that broke his neck; he was told he would never fight again. Vinny, against his doctor’s recommendation, came back to win 4 more world titles. Bad ass.
